HOUDINI CONNECTIONS

Prototype black leather 'arms-down'
STRAIT-JACKET

This very early version of what eventually became a FETTERS 'first' (before being copied by manufacturers all over the world) is the actual jacket all tests were carried out on (in).
My ultimate fantasy strait-jacket, it inspired the story 'Scenario for a Leather Fantasy'
(see 'Storylines' on this site)
, and featured in many photos-shoots including the famous series of pictures of the jacket strapped into 16 different configurations on the SJ BLACKSTEEL WEB SITE (use 'back' button to return here)

A challenge to both the wearer and the person strapping the jacket on, because several configurations are possible using the set of twelve separate straps supplied with this jacket.
For the photo session we used brown straps for easy identification of added straps.

The main jacket is constructed from the toughest 5mm black hide - well-sewn and riveted at every joint in the stitching. Additional reinforcing bands of the same leather allow the jacket to remain flexible while being triple-thickness in many areas.

Four sets of solid hide straps and buckles close the back of the jacket. Two more under the crotch plus a collar strap threaded through three useful 'D' rings make all secure.
In addition, twenty welded 'D' rings attached at strategic points around the body, sleeves and collar receive the additional straps for either crossed arms or the arms-down positions.
Leather strap-loops on each sleeve, prevent straps from being worked out of position.
Each sleeve-end has a strong buckle and two 'D' rings to allow for various configurations.

Traditional crossed arms configuration.
This is made more secure by side-loops on the jacket which prevent arms being slid either up or downwards.
Add to that a front arms strap (photo above and below left) which anchors through 'D' ring on the chest, and any would-be escaper is already in trouble.
A three-strap 'pinion' set, which is a strap to circle each elbow separately before these two straps are joined together by a short double-buckle strap behind the back. All arm movement is eliminated by this device. (see photos below right).

  Arm-down configuration (photos below)
Three pairs of straps thread through pairs of 'D' rings riveted to each side of the jacket at elbow, waist and hem level.
Two more pairs of straps secure wrists to thighs and sleeve-ends to below the knees.
All arm-straps are threaded through leather 'keepers' to keep them in position.

Size; generally ‘large’ but can be expanded with additional short straps.
Used on someone smaller, a pillow added inside the back of the jacket before closing, makes the restraint more efficient.

Condition: Seriously ‘lived-in’ but as good as it ever was, if not better because of it’s well-used appearance.
