CHASTITY BEGINS AT HOME
Enforced fidelity between sex partners features in a lot of fantasy literature. The hard reality in contrast to a comfortable fantasy needs to be explored from every angle before surrendering control. Being denied access to one’s own body is an intense and wildly variable game. Self imposed restraint whether physical or mental can be experimented with in secret, but to share such games usually opens up new territory in any relationship. Whether played in the safety of home or carried out into public places; if the game involves times when the players are separated; many technical factors need to be carefully explored in advance of more serious challenges.

EXCERPT FROM ‘Criminal Confessions from Suburbia’ by Sally Barrett.
In this humorous history of a couple of Seventies adventurers, a suburban London housewife and her sexually insatiable husband Malcolm, set out to discover more about what might be available, sexwise …

… It was around that time we met a few people who were big into Chastity Belt games.
Not just over night anti-masturbation devices, you understand, but long term for weeks on end. The different psychological control and domination games, particularly those centred around restricted access to your own body and bodily functions came as a real eye-opener ... a book could be written about it.

First time we got somebody to give a talk on Practical Chastity Devices at our little Group, my Malcolm said he wished he'd known such things were available when he was on the Oil Rigs, because he'd have bought one to lock me into while he was away. Funny isn't it, how you tend to threaten somebody with something you'd secretly like to try yourself. That can signal the threatened person to go ahead and turn the tables - I know my Malc! That double bluff situation is something you learn to recognize in a lot of 'power exchange' games.

Certainly Malc and I soon got good at it ... and we like to do things together. So, chastity belts, lockable clothes and controlled access to our own bodies became part of our regular games. I've even sat through 'The Sound of Music' locked into a chastity belt when our daughter Melanie was in it for the local Operatic. It was something Malc had made up as a surprise for me. But then, he'd made something similar for himself - and on that memorable night he was locked into his at the same time as me! He doesn’t even like ‘Musicals’ - and I kept stroking his leg trying to get him aroused during the performance. He got ever-so frustrated - so he didn’t exactly enjoy the evening … especially after we got home and we flipped a coin to see who got let out and who stayed locked-up all night - and it was him that lost the toss (in more ways than one)!.

There have been other times when I've keep him trapped inside his diving suit for three days on end. After he told me that Air Sea Rescue teams wore urinal bags inside the regulation waterproof Immersion suits so they don't have to keep taking them off and on during long tours of duty, it opened up new avenues. Malcolm got a lot of other useful info from copter pilots while flying to and from the rigs. Diet control and a butt plug can also prolong the time an escape-proof suit can stay on.

Nowadays I also insist that Malc wears a neat little restrainer device inside so he can't get an erection or bring himself off when I'm not watching him ... but then I like to watch him. I've had him working in his workshop all weekend and sleeping in our play space, still trapped inside his diving suit including face mask (which now locks so he can't take it off). Intense? Yes! Sexually stimulating ... you bet! And I know that most of the time he's sweating and melting away there, he's dreaming up something diabolical for when it's his turn to get his own back. That's how I like it.

CONTROL OF BODY ACCESS
There is no need for expensive chastity devices if clothing is adapted to prevent self-stimulation or even the ability to perform bodily functions without permission or assistance. A snug-fitting pair of Lycra shorts under a pair of jeans plus a lockable waist belt when out in public can achieve this - or a pair of mitts taped on while around the house.
A sportsman's genital cup to prevent self-stimulation - a butt plug firmly in place and un-removable if the belt or pants zip is padlocked: the games-without-names people invent for themselves have always been an inspiration to me.

Dear …
… your phone call prompted me to look back into the files for a bundle of information not contained in the current standard catalogue Chastity Belt pages. Since compiling the original 'Information Sheet' on the general subject several years ago, bitter experience has taught me that even when the devices in question are meticulously measured and made, they seldom live up the fantasy.

The practicalities
In the current sales list two pages of standard leather items for men are popular for relatively short games. Last year I spent a lot of time and money with a manufacturer of stainless steel devices for men and women. Eventually we arrived at the conclusion that the practicalities of very long term confinement (particularly for men) make it expensive and the result unpredictable. I'm not even sure it was a regular practice in olden times.

Historical Myth?
Interestingly, the enclosed pop tabloid article (by Jane Furnival) which appeared recently in the Daily Express makes several points I made fifteen years ago in the Info Sheets. That Medieval Chastity Belts are a popular Victorian myth is very probable, but in past times safeguarding the chastity of wives and daughters and fear of 'false' heirs and inheritors of family wealth did lead to the 'Lock up your daughters' mindset. It is a subject ripe for serious historical research.

Erotic fantasy
The psychological games people play are explored by Sally Barrett in her amusing but informative little book 'Confessions from Suburbia', which describes a whole range of erotic fantasy and fetish games. The different pitches of intensity and ways of achieving this 'power exchange' between couples are discussed from many angles in the book. The question of self imposed and self regulated limited access to one's own body perhaps needs some extra discussion.

Improvised devices
For example, a regular Fetters customer (in Scotland) recently demonstrated to me a modified piece of sports equipment. A substantial boxers groin guard which, under a pair of snug-fitting cycling shorts with lockable waist belt make access impossible and he can be left at home until his bladder is ready to explode (or does explode because the device is totally washable). Or, wearing ‘sweats’, he can be sent off on local shopping expeditions without passers by (who all know him) being aware of his predicament. On longer trips he is often escorted by his partner, and given the key only when in dire need.
The same results can be achieved with rope harnesses around genitals and perhaps serving as a but-plug retainer under street clothes or bike leathers to great effect.
Many different psychological games are possible with such home made devices. As I don't know at what level you play, I can only indicate the different possibilities open to the creative mind.

Anti masturbation devices
Particularly in the Victorian era, certain men seem to have been sex obsessed to the point of devising elaborate genital restraints for use in prisons, schools and the home. These often went to extreme lengths with internal pins or even knives. One patent taken out at the time contained a battery operated electric shock device is the wearer got an erection.
The common practice of in Victorian times of tying boys wrists to his bed to prevent masturbation is, in retrospect, highly suspicious in that sexually repressive but highly sexed era. But, it’s also a matter of historical (suppressed) fact that Victoria was, in her youth, practically a nymphomaniac - hence the ‘Prince Albert’ piercing = fact!
